Hi! How are you? Thanks for stopping by A Platypus Life!
I’m from Argentina and I live in Toronto, Canada, with my husband, Biko, and our cat, Gatita.
Biko is from Yemen and speaks Arabic, English, and Spanish. His Argentine accent comes as a surprise and causes laughter when someone hears it for the first time. My mother tongue is Spanish, my second language is English, my third is Portuguese, and my Arabic is limited to a handful of words and phrases. I hope to be able to speak Arabic soon, and that someone finds my accent funny too. (ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ)
I read a lot, write on weekends, and travel as much as I can. On my Substack, you’ll find:
Essays on migration and life between cultures, religions, and languages, in the Between Cultures section.
Chronicles of our travels, in Travels.
Letters with updates about our family, in Dear Penfriend.
Why the name?
Platypuses have captivated me since I was three years old. The platypus is a mammal that lays eggs, has a duck-like beak, and a beaver-like body. A unique and unexpected mix, just like our family, hence the name of this publication.
